“10 reasons not to buy Apple’s new iPhone 4G”
Want to see what talking out of your backside looks like? Look no further than Matt Warman’s article on the Telegraph website titled “10 reasons not to buy Apple’s new iPhone 4G”.
Thought I’d just cut to the chase and give a fairer analysis of each point made.
- “It’s expensive” - well it sort of is. But I don’t think it’s any more expensive than getting an Android or Blackberry on O2 (or any other network). Currently I’m using an iPhone on O2 pay and go (which admittedly is unusual). As long as I top up £10 a month, I get completely unlimited internet. That includes absolutely everything from tweeting to streaming music on Spotify.
- “It’s anti-technology” - really? Because from where I’m standing, Apple completely reinvented the mobile phone when they announced the original iPhone. Almost every handset since then is inspired by the iPhone. It was the first serious touchscreen device and the first to have an App store, which we are seeing everywhere now.
- “No Flash” - Yowza. Could you possibly be anymore out of touch? If there’s one thing we’ve learnt since Apple announced they wouldn’t be supporting Flash on the iPad - it’s that no one gives a toss about Flash. I think we’ve come to realise that HTML5 is where it’s at. The iPhone is probably the only device to support HTML5 to such an extent currently, as well.
- “No multitasking” - Shows just how little research this reporter did. Multitasking for the iPhone is already available as a beta download for the 3GS and will come out of the box on the next generation device.
- “Its battery life is terrible” - how do they know that the iPhone 4G’s battery life is terrible? The 3G’s batter life could be better, but from what I’ve heard, the iPad’s is extraordinary. In any case, if you’re only using an iPhone as a ‘normal’ phone to make phone calls and send text messages - the battery life is fine.
- “Developing apps for it is costing you money” - that’s ridiculous. Companies can put whatever they like into developing iPhone apps. They’re inexpensive to make anyway, so I’m not really sure what point is being made here.
- “It comes with offensively bad headphones” - fair enough. But they’re the headphones that come with every iPod and iPhone. Most phones come with NO headphones. If you want better headphones, just buy some better headphones. No big deal.
- “It’s not very well designed” - people seem to like it. Apple are pretty good at making design icons. The iPod, the iMac and the iPhone. These are all design icons, so you can’t claim that the iPhone is badly designed. (we haven’t EVEN seen the actual iPhone 4G yet. APPLE HAVEN’T EVEN ANNOUNCED IT.)
- “It charges for satnav” - It depends what you call satnav. The inbuilt maps app is pretty decent, and that’s free.
- “Those iPod docks are holding back better technologies” - you’re not even talking about an Apple product here. What the heck has that got to do with the iPhone 4G?
I’ll say it again. Apple haven’t even announced a new iPhone yet. I think it’s pretty inconsiderate to make claims about how a non-existent phone isn’t worth buying. Wow, newspapers in this country are stupid.
If they can get something like this wrong, how can you trust anything you read on newspaper websites or in the actual papers?
